Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister of State for National Development and Manpower, Republic of Singapore

Mr Tan Chuan-Jin served in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) for nearly 24 years before retiring in 2011. Commissioned at Sandhurst, he has held various appointments in the SAF, including Commander Singapore 3rd Division and Commander Training and Doctrine Command.

When the Indian Ocean Tsunami struck on Boxing Day 2004, Mr Tan led the SAF’s relief effort to Meulaboh, Aceh in Indonesia. Despite the uncertainty and scale of the crisis, they brought in emergency relief to stabilise the situation in the critical period after the tragedy.

As Chairman Executive Committee, Mr Tan was responsible for organising National Day Parade 2009. In May 2011, Mr Tan was elected as one of the Members of Parliament for the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency. He was then appointed as Minister of State for National Development and Manpower.


Dr Amy Khor, Minister of State for Health, Republic of Singapore

Dr Amy Khor has been re-elected as a Member of Parliament in the recent 2011 General Elections. Following this, she has been appointed as the Minister of State for Ministry of Health on 21 May 2011 and remains as the Mayor of South West District.

Dr Amy Khor was appointed Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) in May 2006 and promoted to Minister of State for MEWR in November 2010. She was first appointed Mayor of South West District in 2004. Dr Khor was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2001 General Elections.

She holds a PhD in Land Management from the University of Reading, UK.


Dato’ Dr Jannie Chan, Executive Vice Chairman, The Hour Glass Limited, Singapore, President, Singapore Retailers Association

DATO’ DR. JANNIE CHAN SIEW LEE is a businesswoman whose achievements are recognized both in Singapore and around the world. The Hour Glass, a company Jannie Chan co-founded with her husband in 1979, is a leading contemporary specialist watch retailer in the Asia Pacific region. From a one-boutique operation in 1979, The Hour Glass Group has developed a regional network of 24 boutiques strategically located in prime shopping belts in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Dato’ Dr Chan has also dedicated a great deal of her time to working with organizations for women. She was a member of the Women’s Leadership Initiative Board, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Dr Jannie Chan became a member of the first Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in the year 2000. Its aim is to assist the organization in improving business practices and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of UNOPS’ clients. She is also a member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) since 2004.


Mr Sim S. Lim, Managing Director and Singapore Country Manager, DBS Bank, Singapore

Sim S Lim joined DBS on 1 September 2010 as the Country Manager, DBS Singapore. In this role, Sim is responsible for helping the bank to develop a more acute customer focus and better leverage the bank’s home market presence. He is also currently the Chairman of DBS Vickers Securities Holdings Pte Ltd, and seats on the Board of Singapore Land Authority in Singapore, Avantage Ventures in Hong Kong and Nikko Asset Management Co. Ltd. in Japan.

In his 28 years of banking experience, Sim spent his career in Asia, North America and the Middle East. Prior to joining DBS, Sim was the President and CEO of Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc, a position he held from June 2008 to December 2009. During this time, Sim was also a board member of Citigroup Japan Holdings Corp. He was responsible for all corporate & investment banking, institutional brokerage and fixed income & equity trading for Citigroup in Japan.


Ms Charmaine Sim, Director, Human Resources, IBM Singapore

Appointed Director of Human Resources in April 2010, Charmaine is responsible for the HR operations of IBM Singapore.

Prior to taking on the HR Director role, she was the Executive of Growth Markets Sales + Industry Learning. In the twenty years, IBM saw her take on varied responsibilities in sales, marketing and human resources at country or regional levels - such as being the ASEAN/SA HR Learning leader, the Asia Pacific Marketing Manager for SMB, ASEAN Product Manager for Retail Point-of-Sale and Country Client Representative for Distribution Sector.

Her most recent stint as the Growth Markets Sales & Industry Learning Executive saw her lead a team of Learning professionals across ASEAN, ANZ, Greater China Group, Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe, India + Latin America. A significant achievement was leading them through a transformation journey resulting in stronger collaboration + increased agility to respond to business needs, a heightened sense of awareness of diverse cultures and seamless execution across geographical boundaries.


Mr Tan Seng Chai, Deputy Chief Corporate Officer & Chief Human Resource Officer, CapitaLand Ltd, Singapore

Mr Tan oversees the corporate functions including Human Resource, Corporate Communication, Corporate Marketing, Legal & Company Secretary, Office Administration and Corporate Security & Investigation. Mr Tan is concurrently the Chief HR Officer for the group. One of his core focus areas is to build and develop talents for the growth of the company across the regions. CapitaLand is one of the largest listed real estate companies in Asia. Headquartered in Singapore, the multinational company's core businesses in real estate, hospitality and real estate financial services are focused in gateway cities in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. Ms Angelinena Song, Vice President, Human Resources, Siemens, Singapore

Angelinena has 18 years of leadership experience in human resources at both locally and regionally. She started her career with DHL as the Regional Training Manager of McGregor Sea & Air Services, which was then rebranded as MSAS Global Logistics, and successfully set up the Regional Training Centre for Asia Pacific. After so, Angelinena was transferred to the Singapore office and was appointed as the Country HR & Quality Manager of Exel of Singapore, and led the HR & Quality team in the achievement of the People Developer Standards, including the ISO 9001:2000 Certification.

She was also appointed as the Country HR Manager of the merged DHL and Exel Logistics in Singapore. In 2007, Angelinena was appointed as the Vice President to head and set up the DHL HR Shared Services Centre located in Malaysia which provided HR administrative support to the Business HR of Asia Pacific. Moving along, she joined Siemens in October 2010 as the Vice President, Head of Human Resources for Singapore's office.


Mr Tan Kwang Cheak, Senior Senior Director, Operations, Brand Extensions, Business Planning & Human Resources, McDonald's Restaurants Pte Ltd, Singapore

Mr Tan joined McDonald's Singapore in February 2010. Prior to this, he spent more than a decade in the Singapore Administrative Service, serving in the public sector in various appointments in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Manpower and JTC Corporation. His last appointment in the public sector was Director, Manpower in the Singapore Ministry of Defence. Kwang Cheak graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) and a Masters of Science in Telecommunications from University College London, University of London in 1997.




 

Mr Liew Chin Beng, Senior Vice President, Human Resources & Corporate Communications, Jurong Port Pte Ltd, Singapore

Mr Liew Chin Beng has had more than 30 years’ experience in Human Resources management. He has held management positions in human resources and public relations, in various organizations including DBS Bank, Raffles City, Westin Hotel & Resorts, Shangri-La, Guocoland, Pontiac Land and Marina Bay Sands. Chin Beng sits on the Workforce Development Agency’s (WDA) Port Services WSQ Industry Skills and Training Council.


Mr Seng Han Thong, Assistant Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress, Singapore

Mr Seng Han Thong is appointed in the NTUC/Labour Movement as the Union Centric Director (Special Duty). He champions for mature workers and the self-employed. He also serves as advisors to the National Taxi Association, Singapore Newspaper Distributor Association, National Transport Workers’ Union, Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees, Public Utilities Board Employees' Union, Singapore Interpreters & Translators’ Union.

Mr Seng is the Chairman of Singapore Taxi Academy and TOA Transport Service Ltd. He is also the Deputy Chairman of NTUC Media Cooperative Ltd. He stands in the grassroots of Member of Parliament in the Ang Mo Kio GRC, Deputy Chairman of Transport Government Parliamentary Committee and as a Member of Manpower Government Parliamentary Committee.


Ms Cham Hui Fong, Assistant Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress, Singapore

Cham Hui Fong was appointed the Assistant Secretary-General of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) on 1 June 2011. She is currently the Director of Industrial Relations and also holds the position of Executive Secretary in the Chemical Industries Employees’ Union (CIEU) and the SIA Engineering Company Engineers and Executives Union (SEEU).

Ms Cham, Union Centric Director – Tripartism, has participated in many of the tripartite committees confronting issues such as wage restructuring (under the National Wages Council) and employment and re-employment of mature workers. Her involvement in these tripartite committees has given her opportunities to implement some of the proposed measures and policies effectively at the unionised companies. She is also the champion for Women and Family causes and issues.

In 2007, she became the seventh representative (and the first female representative) from the Labour Movement since 1992 to be made Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP). During the term till 2009, she spoke up for the interests of workers and Singaporeans over a wide range of issues. She has also served on the Board of JTC Corporation.

Ms Cham graduated from the National University of Singapore where she studied Business Administration. In 2010, she received the Public Service Medal.


Mr Koh Juan Kiat, Executive Director, Singapore National Employers Federation, Singapore

Mr Koh represents employers on many national committees to discuss policy issues. He also frequently represents employers in regional and international labour management fora. He is currently an alternate member of the National Wages Council, Vice President of the Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility and a member of the National Tripartite Committee on the employability of older workers and on worklife strategy.

Mr Koh received from the Government of Singapore the Public Admin Medal (Silver) in 1987, the Public Service Medal in 2005 and the Public Service Star in 2011. He also received the Asian Productivity Organisation National Award in 2005.


Dr Carol Tan-Goh Yean Eng, Geriatrician, Raffles Medical Group, Singapore

Dr Tan is a geriatrician by training and has been active in the development of geriatric medicine services in Singapore where she headed geriatric medicine units in both Changi General Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. She was also with the Ministry of Health, Singapore and held concurrent appointments in the Epidemiology and Disease Control, Integrated Health Services and Health Finance Divisions. She also served as served as Deputy Director (Elderly and Disability Policy), Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and worked on the Prime Minster Office (Ageing) portfolio.

Given the fast ageing population and increased prevalence of disease and disability, Dr Tan is also interested in working in partnership with her fellow healthcare professionals to promote active ageing for our patients- health risk assessment, screening, promoting better health literacy, follow-up care and management to minimise disability.

The impact of an ageing population on health, social and community policies, service provision and standards as well as financing schemes are also areas that Dr Tan has been involved in. She is especially interested in promoting public- private- people sector collaboration facilitating a whole government, all people approach.


Mr David Ang, Executive Director, Singapore Human Resources Institute, Singapore

David joined SHRI in 1996 after more than 25 years of contribution in the manufacturing and services sectors where he held various senior positions. As Executive Director of SHRI, David has transformed the Institute into a regional name that the human capital industry referred to on people management and progression matters. A Fellow of SHRI, David is a regular speaker voicing latest HR trends, challenges and practices spanning various industries in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.Accedited as a SHRP (Sr HR Professional), David graduated with a Master in Production Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany and with a MSc in Asia-Pacific Human Resource Management from the National University of Singapore.

Over the years, he has been invited by regional institutes, ministries and statutory boards, MNCs, small to large organizations and educational institutions for his strategic perspectives and operational insights on a wide spectrum of human capital issues. David is instrumental in spearheading and crystallising human capital development and progression programmes at both national and industry levels. He works closely with human resource and human capital communities of consultants, service providers, practitioners, professional bodies, statutory boards and government ministries to spin off various initiatives and plans.


Mr Andrew Fung, General Manager, Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices, Singapore

Andrew Fung is the General Manager of the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP). TAFEP promotes fair, responsible and merit-based employment practices so that employees can realise their full potential and employers can achieve organisational excellence. Leveraging its unique tripartite identity, TAFEP works in partnership with employer organisations, unions and the government to create awareness and facilitate the adoption of fair and responsible employment practices.



Mr Kim Walker, Founder & CEO, Silver Group Asia, Singapore

Kim is the founder and CEO of SILVER, a business consultancy that helps business and government deal with the issues presented by the ageing demographic. He is a leading proponent of the concept of age-friendliness related to the physiology of ageing. His opinions and blog on this subject are much sought after by business and the media alike and has appeared repeatedly on CNBC, Bloomberg and Channel News Asia.

Prior to establishing SILVER, Kim was President and CEO for several global advertising networks across Asia. In these roles he managed the expansion of the global networks into Asian markets such as Korea, Philippines, China, Taiwan, Thailand and India through the acquisition of companies and establishment of new businesses.

He is an ‘international’ having lived and worked outside his native Australia for most of his life including leadership positions in Singapore, Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo. Kim is a serial entrepreneur, with three successful independent start-ups to his credit. He was among the first wave of volunteers to reach the victims of the Indian Ocean Tsunami in Meulaboh, Aceh in January 2005, under the Singapore flag.


Dr Philbert Chin, President, RSVP, Singapore

Dr Chin holds a MBBS Degree and has been the Chairman of Drs Horne & Chin Pte Ltd and The Pharmacy Pte Ltd. Dr Chin has also been the Director of The Cock Pit Hotel Pte Ltd.

Mr Leong Sze Hian, Past President, Society of Financial Service Professionals, Singapore

Leong Sze Hian is the Past President of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He is also an alumnus of Harvard University. Additionally, he had authored 4 books, quoted over 1300 times in the media and has been host of a money radio show. He has been featured in a daily newspaper money column, Wharton Fellow, SEACeM Fellow, columnist for theonlinecitizen and Malaysiakini.

Mr Leong has also been invited to speak more than 100 times in about 25 countries on 5 continents. He has served as Honorary Consul of Jamaica, Chairman of the Institute of Administrative Management and founding advisor to the Financial Planning Associations of Brunei and Indonesia. Mr Leong has 3 Masters, 2 Bachelors degrees and 13 professional qualifications.


Dr. VP Nair, Consultant Interventional, Cardiologist, Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore

Dr VP Nair worked in Singapore and U K and passed M R C P (U K), M R C P (Ireland) and MRCGP (UK) following which he worked in the Cardiology Departments at Watford Hospital and North Wick Park hospital in England. He returned to Singapore in June 1979 and joined, Singapore Hospitals as a cardiologist till 1983. From 1983 he has his own practice at Nair Cardiac Medical Centre at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. He is a consultant Cardiologist to many hospitals in Singapore and overseas. He obtained further post graduate qualifications such as F R C P (Ireland), F R C G P (U K), F R C P (Edinburgh) F A M S (Cardiology, Singapore), F A C C (USA) , F R C P (London) FAPSIC (Interventional Cardiology Asia Pacific), and FESC(Europe).


Mr Victor Tay Kah Soon, Chief Operating Officer, Singapore Business Federation, Singapore

Victor Tay is Chief Operating Officer of Singapore Business Federation (SBF), the country’s APEX Business Chamber which assists its more than 17,000 members with business facilitation, voice representation and capacity building initiatives and services.

Prior to joining SBF, Victor was a Director at SPRING Singapore overseeing a spectrum of sectors across Transport, Logistics, Environmental, Engineering Services, Healthcare, Biomedical, Chemical, Education, Business Services. These sectors cover the community of local enterprises which contributes 15% to Singapore’s GDP. The Division is responsible for the national GDP returns of $28 billion and is charged with doubling the value-added activities of the local small and medium enterprise community of 46,800 entities.

Mr Tay is also passionately engaged in charity work. He is an EXCO member of Association of Persons of Special Needs, and chairs the Infocomm Committee.


Mr Liaw Wee Tong, Executive Director, Red Element Health International Pte Ltd, Singapore

Wee Tong manages and oversees the operation, business development and financial functions in Red Element Health International Pte Ltd (the Company). He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and CPA Australia. The Company provides health promotion and nutrition management services to organisations and individuals.

The clients’ portfolio of the Company are diverse and comprise of listed entities, MNCs, SMEs and non-profit organisations operating in a wide range of industries including education, healthcare, financial, investment trust, legal, manufacturing, real estate and testing & certification.


Professor Leo Tan, Chairman, Organising Committee, The Rotary Club of Jurong Town, Director (Special Projects), Faculty of Science, National University Singapore

Leo Tan graduated from the University of Singapore with a BSc Honours in Zoology in 1969 and a PhD in Marine Biology in 1974. He held various teaching positions with the University from 1973 – 1986 and moved full time from his Senior Lectureship to the Singapore Science Centre in 1986. One of those invited to lead NIE forwards in 1991 as foundation Dean of Science, his subsequent appointment to full Professor in 1992, then Director of the NIE in 1994, are testimony to his abilities which were so ably spotted by those tasked with identifying such potential in 1991. His life‐long interest in Marine Biology is ably demonstrated in his recent prestigious publications in Nature and Science, even when fully involved in the daily administration of this very vibrant NIE.

He is now a full time educator, researcher and administrator with overall responsibility for the training of teachers from initial to in‐service, including the flagship leadership programme. Recognition of this standing can be seen in the public awards he has received to‐date. Notably, the public Administration Gold Medal ‐ 1988, Public Service Medal ‐ 1995, Public Service Star ‐ 2001, Green Leaf Environmental Award ‐ 1997, Natural Science and Technology Medal – 1999 and the Order of Merit 2002 from the French Government.


Dr Wong Nan Soon, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Oncocare Cancer Centre Singapore

He was formerly senior consultant and chief of breast team in the department of medical oncology and deputy director in the division of community outreach and philanthropy at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. He is currently Vice President of the Singapore Society of Oncology; Board Member, Chapter of Medical Oncologists of Singapore; and Committee Member, Specialist Training Committee for Medical Oncology.

His subspecialty interests are breast cancer and colorectal cancer. He has published widely in international peer reviewed journals and major international cancer meetings in the areas of breast cancer pathology, epidemiology, novel therapeutics, chemotherapy and endocrine therapy as well as in the area of colorectal cancer.


Mr Daniel Martin, Producer-Presenter, 938LIVE - Mediacorp, Singapore

Daniel is the host of the only English daily radio health chat show - Body and Soul.

He also hosts the only live onsite youth forum - Campus, alternate Fridays from 10am to 11am - which is broadcast from schools around Singapore. Dr Chng Shih Kiat, Council Member, College of Family Physicians, Family Physician, Raffles Medical Group, Singapore

Dr Chng is the Deputy Medical Director of the Raffles Medical Clinics and currently works as a Consultant Family Physician in Raffles Executive Medical Centre at Raffles Hospital. He is a council member in the College of Family Physician (Singapore). He is a member of the MOH Family Physician Accreditation Committee and a member of the Family Medicine Residency Advisory Committee.

Dr Chng is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and is currently the Core Faculty of the NUHS Family Medicine Residency Programme. He is a Designated Workplace Doctor under MOM and is also an accredited Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) trainer under Health Promotion Board. He has been active in promoting workplace health and safety to different companies in the course of his work.


Mr Isaiah Chng, Director/Exercise Physiologist, PROAGE Pte Ltd, Singapore

Isaiah Chng is a social entrepreneur and graduate in exercise science specialising in the areas of geriatrics and ageing population. Isaiah is the Founder and Director of PROAGE Pte Ltd, a trailblazing organisation that believes that every single person has the potential to age successfully, healthy and happy. He steers the strategic direction of the company with the support of his team and medical advisory board. Isaiah aspires to impact nations globally by providing programmes and services that radically change how we age. In doing so, he hopes to contribute to national policies and be part of the solution for the issues in an ageing world we live in.

In 2007, Isaiah observed that physiological decline in older adults and social stigma of ageing was widespread and evident in society. Driven by a deep love for this age group and seeing the true value of each older adult, he founded PROAGE with a belief that everyone has the potential to age successfully. He envisioned for every individual to have an opportunity to live the best possible quality of life, regardless of their age, background and abilities they may possess; and to stay engaged, active, healthy and empowered with the knowledge and skills to age successfully.


Dr Leong Hoe Nam, Consultant, Singapore

Dr Hoe Nam Leong is a practising consultant infectious disease physician in private practice. He is based in Raffles Hospital and is a visiting consultant at the Singapore General Hospital, National Cancer Centre, Dover Park Hospice, and an adjunct assistant professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.. He was a managing physician during the SARS and Influenza A H1N1 2009 outbreak in Singapore. His research interest is varied, including general virology, beta-herpesviruses and molecular diagnostics in virology.



Dr Teoh Seng Hin, Consultant, Singapore

Dr Teoh is a Gynaecologist in private practice. He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, London and also holds a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the National University of Singapore.

He obtained a Master’s degree in Men’s Health & Andrology from Edith Cowan University Australia in 2006 and was among the top 100 performing students of the university that year. Besides having been in clinical practice for over 30 years, Dr Teoh has published papers in local and international journals, and also presented on men's health at local and overseas conferences.


Dr Yeoh Swee Inn, Consultant Endocrinologist, Gleneagles Medical Centre, Visiting Consultant Endocrinologist, Singapore General Hospital and Changi General Hospital, Singapore

Dr Yeoh is currently a Consultant Endocrinologist at YSI Endocrine and Metabolic Clinic Pte Ltd at Gleneagles Medical Centre. She also teaches as a Visiting Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology at Singapore General Hospital. Dr Yeoh also held local as well as international lectures and teachings throughout her professional years. She graduated with a MBBS (Singapore) in 1978.



Ms Audrey Yap, Co-opted Council Member, Association of Small & Medium Enterprises, Partner, Yu Sarn Audrey & Partners, Singapore

Audrey is an advocate & solicitor admitted to both the Singapore and the Malaysian Bar and a Solicitor of England and Wales. Audrey is also a Registered Patent Agent in Singapore, a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public.

Audrey served as Regional Consultant for The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Geneva to head up a study involving IP as an economic tool for ASEAN. Audrey served as an external expert for the European Patent Office (EPO) under the EC-ASEAN IP Cooperation Programme in 2004 and was recently chosen this year by the European Union as Expert to advise The IPO Office of Philippines in setting up a network of Technology Support offices throughout the country.

Audrey was the only Singapore lawyer named for 3 years running since 2009 as one of the 250 World’s leading IP strategists in a London based survey conducted by IAM magazine.


Dr Chai Chin Yoong, Chief Executive Officer, Parkway Shenton, Singapore

Dr Chai Chin Yoong graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1995. He joined Parkway Primary Health Care division in 2001. Over the years he has worked as a family physician in both Corporate as well as Neighborhood clinics. In late 2001, Dr Chai became the Chief Operating Officer of Shenton Medical Group and Shenton Family Medical Clinics, a chain of clinics of the Primary Care Division of Parkway Health. He subsequent took charge of the Group as the Medical Director from 2002 to 2005. At the same time, he was appointed as a Designated Medical Examiner for CAAS after completing a course in aviation medicine.

In 2011, Dr Chai took over the reigns of Parkway Shenton, the Primary care Services of Parkway Pantai Limited for the whole of Singapore. He oversees 57 clinics that cover all areas of Primary Healthcare from Family Medicine Care, Health Screening, Aero-medical Evacuation and Emergency Medicine to Healthcare Insurance and Third Party Administration that works with a panel of more than 350 clinics islandwide. Currently, he is also working closing with the Ministry of Health to support the national interest in its concern and care for our aging population.
